About xCures
Founded in 2018, xCures operates the leading healthcare data platform, which can aggregate medical records from various sources, normalize and structure them for processing. Assisted by artificial intelligence, the platform extracts data to provide healthcare providers and diagnostics with fast and easy access to the specific clinical information needed to deliver care.
The Opportunity
xCures is seeking a self-motivated, results-driven, collaborative Clinical Scientist to join our dynamic and rapidly growing team. Reporting to the Vice President of Scientific and Medical Affairs, you will play a key role in validating the scientific accuracy and clinical relevance of our AI-driven data extraction platform. You will partner closely with Data Science, Engineering, and Clinical Informatics teams to guide model development, validate complex medical concepts, and ensure the integrity of structured clinical outputs. This role demands strong analytical thinking, a deep understanding of clinical domains (particularly in oncology and real-world evidence), and the ability to translate complex, unstructured medical data into structured, actionable insights that power downstream analytics and decision-making. Ideal candidates will thrive in a fast-paced, cross-functional, and mission-driven environment where scientific rigor and innovation intersect.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the scientific and clinical validation efforts of client checklists based on AI/ML models and LLM extractors, ensuring the accuracy and consistency of complex medical concepts.
- Serve as an internal subject matter expert for clinical domains, guiding the data science team on appropriate data interpretation, clinical relevance, and the limitations of current extraction methodologies.
- Collaborate directly with the Data Science team to prototype and refine algorithms and logic for clinical data extraction, inferred variables, normalization, and binning, offering domain expertise on the nuances of medical text and data representation.
- Lead data quality initiatives by meticulously reviewing and troubleshooting extracted data, identifying discrepancies or unexpected patterns and proposing solutions.
- Work closely with Engineering and Clinical Informatics to ensure the accurate and efficient integration and export of structured clinical data into various formats (e.g., FHIR bundles, CSV tables).
- Support data management and governance by contributing to data dictionary alignment, de-identification processes, and the overall integrity of clinical datasets used for internal development and analysis.
- Support ongoing business development efforts by performing feasibility analysis for prospective and current clients.
- Participate in cross-functional project teams involving product managers, software engineers, and client success teams to ensure clinical rigor and impact across product lifecycles.
- Support post-deployment monitoring by helping define and evaluate clinical quality KPIs and performance drift over time, recommending retraining or recalibration strategies where applicable.
- Serve as a clinical reviewer in internal audits, client demos, or QA events to ensure the correct interpretation and presentation of patient-level outputs.
Qualifications
- Masters degree in a life sciences or computational biology discipline (PhD preferred)
- 4+ years industry experience preferred but not required
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex scientific concepts into clear, concise, and actionable insights for diverse audiences
- Significant experience with electronic medical records (EMR) and a deep understanding of the current healthcare data landscape (e.g., Health Information Exchanges (HIE), Qualified Health Information Networks (QHIN))
- Demonstrated experience with structured clinical data and real-world data analysis
- Experience with multiple coding languages for data manipulation and data analysis (Python, R, TypeScript, etc.)
- Strong understanding of data quality principles, data validation processes, and the ability to critically assess the provenance and limitations of real-world data
- Strong publication record
- Proven track record of managing multiple complex and unrelated projects simultaneously, with strong organizational and time management skills
- Experience with medical coding ontologies preferred (SNOMED, LOINC, RxNorm, OMOP)
- Exceptional communication (written and verbal) skills
- Comfort working remotely and with virtual communication platforms
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and growth-phase start-up environment
