Director of Finance and Accounting
This Role is Perfect for You If You Love:
- You thrive in building from scratch — you are energized by the opportunity to be the first Director of Finance and Accounting at a high-growth health-tech company and want to leave your fingerprints on every process you design.
- You are equal parts technical accountant and strategic partner — you can close the books with precision and then walk into a board meeting and speak fluently about the business.
- You care deeply about the mission — the idea that your financial rigor is helping get better treatments to cancer patients faster genuinely matters to you.
- You are comfortable with complexity — consumption-based revenue models, multi-element arrangements, and ASC 606 don’t intimidate you; they excite you.
- You are a natural builder who brings structure to ambiguity — you know when a scrappy spreadsheet is the right answer and when you need to invest in a more scalable system.

About the Role / Key Responsibilities
The Director of Finance and Accounting will be xCures’ first dedicated finance and accounting leader with a Controller charter, reporting directly to the CFO. This is a foundational hire: you will be responsible for establishing and owning all aspects of the company’s accounting operations, financial close process, and internal controls infrastructure as the company scales toward its next stage of growth.
Accounting Operations & Financial Close
- Own the end-to-end monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process, including preparation and review of financial statements in accordance with US GAAP.
- Establish and maintain a well-documented, repeatable close calendar with clear ownership and accountability across all accounting workstreams.
- Oversee all general ledger activity, journal entries, account reconciliations, and intercompany transactions.
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, and expense management functions.
Revenue Recognition
- Lead revenue recognition under ASC 606 across xCures’ consumption-plus-subscription revenue model, including treatment of minimum commitment arrangements, data licensing, professional services, and royalty streams.
- Partner with Revenue Operations and Sales to ensure contracts are reviewed prior to execution for revenue recognition implications.
- Maintain and update the company’s revenue recognition policy and related memos as new contract structures are introduced.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Design, implement, and maintain a scalable internal controls framework commensurate with the company’s stage and growth trajectory.
- Serve as the primary owner of the company’s audit readiness, coordinating with external auditors on annual financial statement audits and any required reviews.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local tax filing requirements, working with external tax advisors as appropriate.
- Oversee sales tax compliance, including treatment of SaaS and data-related revenue streams across relevant jurisdictions.
Systems & Infrastructure
- Own the company’s accounting system of record and drive any system selection, implementation, or optimization initiatives (e.g., ERP, billing, and revenue operations platforms).
- Partner with Revenue Operations on the evaluation and implementation of billing and revenue automation tools consistent with xCures’ consumption-based model.
- Establish chart of accounts structure, cost center hierarchies, and reporting dimensions to support operational decision-making.
- Leverage AI-powered tools and emerging technologies to enhance accounting workflows, improve efficiency, and identify opportunities for automation across the finance function.
Team & Cross-Functional Leadership
- Act as the primary point of contact for all accounting and financial reporting matters across the organization.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with People Operations, Legal, Revenue Operations, and Customer Success on finance-adjacent workstreams.
- Build and develop the accounting team over time as the company scales.
Qualifications
Required
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant time in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or equivalent role.
- Deep technical knowledge of US GAAP, with demonstrated hands-on expertise in ASC 606 revenue recognition.
- Experience in a high-growth technology or life sciences company — SaaS or health-tech strongly preferred.
- Proven track record of owning a financial close process and improving its efficiency over time.
- Experience partnering with external auditors and managing annual audits independently.
- Strong command of Excel/Google Sheets for financial analysis and reconciliation work.
Preferred
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
- Public accounting background combined with industry experience.
- Experience with consumption-based or usage-based billing models and the accounting complexity they introduce.
- Familiarity with ERP selection and implementation at a scaling startup (e.g., NetSuite, Sage Intacct).
- Experience with billing and revenue automation platforms (e.g., Maxio, Zuora, Chargebee, Tabs).
- Prior experience building or managing a small accounting team.
Location
xCures operates in a distributed, remote-first environment. Candidates may be located anywhere in the United States. Occasional travel to company offsites or key meetings may be required.
The successful candidate must already have authorization to work in the United States. At this time, xCures does not offer sponsorship.
Additional Considerations
This is a first-of-its-kind role at xCures — the Company has not previously had a dedicated Director of Finance and Accounting. As such, this individual will be stepping into a greenfield environment that requires both the ability to execute hands-on accounting work today and the judgment to build systems and processes that scale. Candidates who are accustomed to large, fully-staffed accounting departments may find this role less suitable. Those who are energized by building and ownership will find it deeply rewarding.
Compensation
- Salary range: $150,000 – $200,000
- Medical, Dental, Vision insurance
- 401k
- Equity options
