Mika Newton & Dr. Rosalyn Morrell

Dr. Rosalyn Morrell is a radiation oncologist in Los Angeles. She and Mika discuss some of the misnomers and concerns that patients and families have around radiation therapy. They talk about where to go to start your research on radiation therapy, issues surrounding minority groups in clinical trials, Dr. Morrells involvement with ASTRO, new technologies in the field, and the importance of education for patients and providers.

Mika Newton & Dr. Ali Afshar

Dr. Ali Afshar is a Cedar-Sinai trained urologist and oncologist. Though he works in a small community setting he is active in the academic world of healthcare and works to find his patients the best solutions from clinical trials to robotic surgeries. Dr. Afshar and Mika discuss various symptoms to look out for, types of urological cancers, diagnostics, and treatment options. They also share some insight on the shortage of oncologists across the nation and how important patient advocacy is.

Mika Newton & Dr. Justin Houman

Dr. Justin Houman is a urologist and Male Reproductive Medicine and Surgery specialist at Cedars-Sinai Tower. Mika and Dr. Houman discuss the different kinds of bladder cancers, how diagnosis and treatments have evolved over the last decade, and how important it is for proper education and support. Mika is joined at the end of the podcast by Molly and Amy who discuss their cancer stories.

Dr. Darshan Gandhi started his career almost 20 years ago starting in clinical cancer drug research and he found a passion for integrating medicine, technologies, and personal care to improve the patient journey. He and Mika discuss how technology has changed, especially in how we communicate and exchange data. They are also joined by a few patients towards the end of the episode who share their experiences. Dr. Mary El-Masry is Stanford educated in Hematology-Oncology. She currently practices at Cedars-Sinai Tower in Beverly Hills, CA which is considered not only a private but an academic practice. Because of the academic aspect, many patients that come to Dr. El-Masry are seeking a second opinion or potential last resort options such as clinical trials. She and Mika discuss a variety of topics including what patients should prepare for when visiting, what kind of symptoms are easily missed, how doctors and caregivers can advocate for patients, and the best ways to stay up to date in the latest cancer research and recommendations.

Mika Newton & Dr. Melanie Palomares 

Dr. Melanie Palomares is a Preventive Oncologist. She and Mika dive deeper into the preventive specialty and certain statistics around the likelihood of cancers due to genetics versus environmental factors such as diet, nutrition, exercise, etc... They also discuss when is the right time to seek a preventive consultation along with some current and upcoming testing and treatment considerations for early-stage diagnosis.
