About the role:

Reporting to the VP of Data Science, the Senior Data Scientist will work on mission-critical projects driven by xCure’s client needs and will support the development of data science for xCure’s complex health data processing, extraction, and analysis capabilities. We’re looking for an individual who values team-building, cooperation, and mentoring colleagues. Likewise, you reach out across the organization for guidance on engineering, clinical, and business topics as needed. Projects will include significant data extraction challenges using LLMs and other technologies, statistical analysis and data aggregation objectives, and software development objectives. You will author analysis software and take the lead on the implementation of company policies around data science code repositories, coordination. Such team responsibilities are key requirements for this position, which will deliver large, and sometimes complex, data products.

This position is fully remote, but will coordinate very closely with a small team and thus requires excellent communication and coordination skills. Occasional travel is required.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and testing data extraction and analysis software
  • Planning, explaining, and implementing projects to extract and organize data products, including for specific clients
  • Developing and implementing tests of data extraction and aggregation performance to improve efficiency, timeliness, and cost-effectiveness
  • Conducting or leading exploratory data analysis to uncover patterns, trends, and insights that inform strategic decision-making
  • Flexibly taking on technical leadership or participation roles per project
  • Implementing and maintaining code repositories, while championing good development practices, particularly with junior staff
  • Working closely with manager to explore methods, test hypotheses, and collaboratively implement innovative solutions for data science
  • Coordinating as required for a fully remote role
  • Creating materials to educate colleagues and clients
  • Leading and/or contributing to the authoring and publication of scientific articles
  • Proactively sharing knowledge and mentoring colleagues on data science issues
  • Working with Engineering and other groups to improve overall company efficiency and effectiveness

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Masters degree, Ph.D., or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Statistics, Biology, or related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in data science, machine learning, data analysis, software development, and/or predictive analytics
  • Expertise in applied methods in data science including statistics, machine learning, ETL, and data aggregation
  • Significant prior experience with LLMs, embeddings models, and authoring python code to build data extraction and/or classification tools
  • Proven prior development of software that implements generative AI
  • Prior work experience with complex health data, including creating data exchange and analysis tools
  • Experience with statistical tools in python, R, or similar
  • Experience with TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, or similar
  • Experience with sentence_transformers, LLM APIs, multiple LLM models/providers, prompt engineering and structured testing thereof
  • Software development skills including git
  • Experience programming with data retrieval technologies such as SQL, noSQL, and APIs such as REST, SPARQL, GRAPHQL or similar
  • Experience writing unit and integration tests for scientific/clinical data software as well as with developing scientifically motivated data quality assessments
  • Prior mentorship/training experience in a technical field
  • Flexible, innovative, can-do approach to delivering software and data products balanced with team cooperation
  • A passion for successful delivery of team work products
  • Must reside in the United States.
  • Must have authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience with AWS technologies, especially deploying generative AI/ML tools
  • Experience with code review, paired programming, and agile development
  • Software development experience in JavaScript and TypeScript
  • Experience with Visual Studio, copilot, and LLM-assisted coding
  • Experience with OCR and modern structured data reconstruction from rasterized documents
